Why the Blogging World Needs You -Start Your Blog Today!

pinterest postblogginghowto

So you wanna’ start a blog, eh?

It seems like everyone is starting a blog these days. According to blogging.org, in 2013 there were already 152 million blogs on the internet, and you can believe that number has grown exponentially since then.

But don’t let that little ole number (haha) discourage you!

No really, don’t let it.

Because the truth is, although everyone and their brother is out there blogging to their heart’s content, no two bloggers blog the same way, and neither will you.

Every day our heads are overloaded with information, and frankly, a lot of it is garbage. So when something “humanistic” comes along, it’s no wonder why people become drawn to it.

People want to hear about experiences; they want to identify with someone about something. Because blogging showcases your voice, it’s raw; it’s flawed, but it’s authentic, and that’s what matters most.

In recent years, blogging has also become a money making asset and a fantastic way to grow your business, start one, or to share your expertise.

But let’s face it, you probably want to start a blog because you’ve got something to say; so say it.

Now that our little pep-talk is over let’s get to it!

HOW TO START A BLOG Why the Blogging World Needs You -Start Your Blog Today!

STEP 1. Get organized.

Before we get started, decide what your goal is for blogging:

Are you looking to start a blog to connect with people?

Do you want to monetize your blog down the road?

Are you looking to use your blog as a platform for starting a business?

The answer to these questions will make a difference in how you approach blogging. I’ll explain about this later on in this post.

In the meantime, if you haven’t the foggiest idea of how to even get started, no worries I got you covered. I’ve done the research, I’ve made the mistakes, and I’ve fixed them to make sure you start on the right foot.

After browsing the web for resources on how to start a blog (because I had absolutely NO idea how even to get started, I’m not even playin’ I was clue—less!!!), I came across a program called Elite Blog Academy (EBA).

I don’t know if it was the divine blogging goddesses who revealed this program to me but let me tell you; I’m sure glad they did.

EBA helped guide me through the process of developing and delivering solid content while introducing me to the possibility that I could earn money from it! If you’re like me and need structure, then this will be the best investment you’ve made in a while.

STEP 2. Choose a domain name

Choosing a domain name might be the hardest part for most people unless of course you already know what you want to call your domain name.

Take your time with this step because once you’ve chosen your name, it’s gonna’ be www.blogname.com  permanently.

If you want to change it you’re gonna’ have to shell out time and money to move all of your hardwork it into a new website, and well, that’s just no Bueno.

QUICK TIP
When choosing a name keep in mind

  • Remember I mentioned about your “approach” to blogging? Well, turns out, that owning a .com or .org website will make you look more professional.
  • Keep your name short. Be conscious of how people will “find” you. If your site name is long, the probability of people misspelling it are greater and no one will find you.
  • “Catchy” names stick. Visitors will likely remember your site if you make a name that flows well, or is clever sounding.

STEP 3. Choose Webhosting

Fact: If you plan on making money from your blog, then you have to OWN your blog. And to OWN your blog, you’re gonna’ have to get web-hosting. The good news is that it’s TOTALLY affordable.

I use Bluehost to host my website. Bluehost has without a doubt the best tech support team I’ve ever experienced, and it’s totally affordable.

Bluehost offers three plans and if you sign-up through the links on this page today, you can receive hosting as low as $3.95/month!**

step-by-step-guide to starting a blog

The best part about Bluehost is that they are available 24/7. Click here to get started and get yourself set up today!

As a first time blogger, the basic plan will perfectly suit your needs. It features:

  • A 1-click WordPress installation making it fast and easy to get started
  • 24/7 tech support

    +  FREE Domain

STEP 4. Get in touch with bluehost  (using the “chat” option) and ask them to help you install WordPress

You don’t necessarily need to do this if you feel like you can install WordPress yourself, but if you’re not comfortable with your tech skills, you can always reach out to tech support and ask them to help you get started on WordPress.

Scroll down Bluehost’s homepage until you find “support” at the very bottom of the page, click on it and you will be directed to a page that gives you a list of tech support department links according to your needs.

STEP 5.  Login to the WordPress Dashboard

In the internet search bar, type in your website’s name and the following box will pop-up. Type in your username and password. You already set this up with the Bluehost tech support so you’ll be all set once you arrive at the login page.

The hand holding guide to starting your blog

Once you’ve logged in, NOW you can get started on building your blog. You’ll see the “dashboard” of your website, and it’s here that you’ll begin choosing what your website will look like—also known as your “theme.

Why the blogging world needs you

Choosing your theme is the fun part, but again, take your time. There are MANY options.

Tip—When choosing your theme
  • Don’t just stick to one kind of theme—for example, if your blog is about business, don’t just search for “business” themes, a “food,” or “art” theme might better suit your style and blogging needs. Keep your options open.
  • Child-Parent theme— When choosing a theme, scroll down to the bottom of the details and make sure your theme has something called a “child-parent” theme.

The best way to explain this is, imagine you want a painting on your wall, would you rather have the painting on a canvas that you can change whenever you want? (child), or would you instead paint right on the wall, making it harder and more time consuming to change later? (parent)

Choose a theme that allows you to edit without making permanent changes to your theme if you want the option to change it later—choose a theme with a child-parent theme.

  • If your theme offers a web-developer to help you get started, DO IT!!! Especially when you’re just starting out on WordPress, it can get complicated. You’ll have plenty of time in the future to know your way around, but if you want to get the ball rolling faster, then pay the money to get someone to help you out.
